The Cherokee County Family YMCA Dolphin Swim Team is a very unique program in that the entire coaching and administrative staff consists of volunteers who are fully certified as coaches and officials. We are not aware of any other YMCA swim team program that is administered entirely by volunteers. We take great pride in the commitment of our coaches and parents who volunteer to provide this year-round program for the children of Cherokee County. The Dolphin Swim Team is under the direction of Head Coach Dr. Todd Morgan. Coach Morgan took over as head coach during the summer season of 2005. He is certified by the YMCA in Principles of Competitive Swimming and Diving, YMCA and Red Cross Lifeguard, and Red Cross Safety Training for Swim Coaches. Other current coaches include Coach Pete Wright, Coach Robert Overton, and Coach Pam Morgan. All three coaches are certified by the Red Cross in CPR and First Aid, Safety Training for Swim Coaches, and YMCA Principles of Competitive Swimming and Diving. Pete also holds a YMCA and Red Cross Lifeguard certification. Former CoachesCoach Don Kier has been involved with the team since it's first season on 1996. He is a member of the American Swimming Coaches Association and AAU Swimming. Coach Kier is certified by the YMCA in Principles of Competitive Swimming and Diving, YMCA Swimming Coach, YMCA Advanced Swimming Coach, and YMCA Level II Official. He is also certified by the American Swimming Coaches Association as a Level 1 Coach. Coach Kier took several groups of swimmers to the Junior Olympics in Florida and Maryland, and served as the Carolina YMCA Swim League Vice-president and President. He is currently serving as both the League web-master and the team's web-master. Age Group Coach Carl Brown was a Dolphin coach for several seasons as well as a previous head coach for a team in Spartanburg, SC. Coach Brown is a member of the American Swimming Coaches Association where he is certified as a Level II coach. Coach Brown is also certified by the Red Cross in CPR and Safety Training for Swim Coaches and holds the YMCA Principles of Competitive Swimming and Diving certification. Coach Brown's contributed significant time and money to take several of the senior swimmers to swim camps at Auburn University and to the Junior Olympics. Beginners Coach Roz Simmons officially joined our coaching staff in the spring of 2001 after serving as a parent volunteer since the team started in 1996. She is certified as a Level I coach by ASCA and as a Level I Official by the YMCA, and as a YMCA Swim Coach. Her primary responsibility is working with our beginning swimmers. |
